Adzi’s Army – In memory of Adam McGovern. Adam’s brother and 21 of his friends are running the Dublin Marathon this October in Adam’s memory.

We were so shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Adam McGovern in March of 2023. Only weeks before, Adam had been the recipient of the Paul Gillen Bursary which was given to help and support him in developing his love of cooking. He was an extremely courageous young man (age 22 from Sandyford in Dublin) who battled with CHD but otherwise lived a full and happy life. In memory of Adam, his twin brother, Seamus, and twenty-five of his friends have come together to take part in the Dublin Marathon and raise funds for Heart Children. Calling themselves ‘Adzi’s Army’ for this challenge, we are very grateful to the team and to Adam’s family for supporting the work of our organisation in this way.

In a statement from the Adzi’s Army team, they say:

We are carrying on the legacy of our beloved brother and friend who was so brave and positive throughout his whole life, and we feel it is our time to show our appreciation and help towards much-needed funds to assist others to receive support in their own way. Heart Children works closely with a number of hospitals throughout Ireland and in particular Crumlin Hospital, which provided Adam with nurture, guidance, and support in his early years, and The Mater which Adam transitioned to in his later years.”
