Children’s Heart Centre Playroom

The wonderful furniture in the new play room at The Children’s Heart Centre was purchased by Heart Children Ireland, just one of the projects your fundraising efforts have enabled us to do.

Childrens Cardiac Ward

Heart Children Ireland supplied 18 battery operated portable Oxygen Saturation Monitors for a children’s cardiac ward in Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin.

Young Adult Congenital Unit

Heart Children Ireland supports The Young Adult Congenital Unit at The Mater Hospital. We have purchased 35 coagu-chek machines for our young adults. You can see Damien and Woody presenting Dr. Kevin Walsh with a cheque for €20,000 in the gallery below.

Having reached our target of €160,000, the new Philips 3DECMO is now installed at the Young Adult Congenital Unit at the Mater Hospital. The new machine will make a significant difference to the treatment of CHD patients in the Mater Hospital. The machine has live 3D capabilities which gives a whole new perspective on congenital heart defects. It enables the cardiologist to see the patient’s heart in “real time” therefore enabling the cardiologist to make a diagnosis there and then.  It is less invasive for the patient and helps the cardiologist to understand the defects much better and plan their surgical repair.  The Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) service at  the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is a national service providing specialist support to patients with complex congenital heart defects requiring lifelong care.

On October 14th 2011 Heart Children Ireland opened The Maurice Neligan Congenital Heart Clinic at The Young Adult Congenital Unit at the Mater Hospital.  Heart Children Ireland, through our partnership with Home Retail Group, raised €50k to create this space for our young adults.  This clinic will provide a private space for our young adults to consult with their Clinical Nurse Specialist if they have any concernes about their health. We were delighted to welcome, Dr. James Reilly, Minister for Health to open this clinic.  We were especially honoured to welcome Pat Neligan and her family.
